how to get to the starting place

The start and finish point of the Cammino dei Borghi Silenti is located in the village of Tenaglie, in Vittorio Emanuele II Square. By clicking on the button next to it you will be taken directly to the location via the Google Maps navigator

– From the north: Exit the A1 Milan-Naples freeway at the Orvieto exit; from the tollbooth turn left onto the road 205 “Amerina” in the direction of Terni – Amelia – Montecchio. After passing the town of Baschi continue on the main road until, after about 10 km you will follow the signs for Tenaglie, where the starting point of the walk is located.

– From the south: We recommend the exit at the Attigliano tollbooth on the A1 Milano – Napoli: from the tollbooth turn right in the direction of Lugnano in Teverina. Once in the village (about 10 km from the Attigliano tollbooth), turn left onto the road “Amerina” in the direction of Guardea – Montecchio. Passed the village of Guardea, after about 3 km turn right where there are signs for the village of Tenaglie.

– From Perugia: exit at Todi driving along the E45 in the direction of Terni; from here follow the signs for Orvieto – Montecchio until the end of the road, passing the lake and the dam of Corbara (about 20 km). From here turn left towards Terni – Montecchio on road 205 until you find signs for Tenaglie. 

– From Terni: take the freeway link road in the direction of Orte and exit at Amelia; from here continue on road 205 in the direction of Orvieto – Guardea – Montecchio until you find the signs for Tenaglie (about 30 km from the Amelia exit).

Both for those coming from the north and those coming from the south, it is advisable to get off at Orvieto station, located on the slow line Rome – Florence. From here by bus of the line Orvieto – Amelia – Terni, you will reach in about forty minutes at the foot of the hamlet of Tenaglie: the stop is located 150 meters from the start of the path, at the height of a grocery store. For those who wish there is also the possibility of being able to get off at the station of Alviano Scalo, located on the same line, between the stations of Orte and Orvieto: Since there are no bus services up to Tenaglie, if necessary and with due notice, you can take advantage of a special shuttle service, booking on line by email: info@camminodeiborghisilenti.it The same service can also be requested for those getting off at Orvieto station.

The path

The walking route is about 90 km long and is mainly on dirt roads, mountain paths and some short sections of secondary paved roads. The Cammino dei Borghi Silenti is traced as a loop and revolves around Mount Croce di Serra, the highest point in the Amerini Mountains with its almost 1,000 meters in height; it is necessary to carefully follow the yellow-colored signs, as per the legend, as the trail runs through large uninhabited sections with long passages through the woods.
